The Beatrice girls tennis team was finally able to get a home meet in on Monday, but the conditions weren't ideal.
The Lady O fell to Waverly 8-1 on a chilly evening at Hannibal Park in Beatrice.
"It was a very cold day to play tennis, but the girls didn't complain," said Beatrice coach Amy Randel. "Seven of our 12 players are freshmen and the scores do not show how much the girls have improved since the first day of practice."
The lone Beatrice win game in No. 2 singles. Emma Elliott was able to defeat Waverly's Julia Wingrove 8-3.
Morgan Burenheide played No. 1 singles and lost her match to Waverly's Maddie Tabor 8-2. In No. 3 singles, Mikayla Bletscher lost 8-1 to Kaylee VanAmpting.
In No. 4 singles, Averly Plessel fell 8-0 to Gwen Prockish of Waverly. Beatrice's Abby Witulski lost 8-2 to Analiese Wiedenbeck in No. 5 singles. Haley Price played No. 6 singles for the Lady O and fell in her match to Mac Steckelberg 8-2.
Beatrice fell in all three doubles matches. The most competitive match came at No. 1 doubles with the duo of Elliot and Bletscher falling 8-6 to Prokish and VanAmpting.
At No. 2 doubles, Burenheide and Witulski lost 8-3 to Wiedenbeck and Steckelberg. The No. 3 doubles team of Plessel and Price lost 8-0 to Tabor and Wingrove.
"Emma had a great match," Randel said. "There were many long rallies and deuce games that did not go in our favor. The girls improve every time they go out."
Previously, the Lady O also lost a dual to Lincoln Christian 7-2.
The No. 2 doubles team of Burenheide and Witulski won their match 8-6 over Olicia Burgler and Macy Arnold of Lincoln Christian.
Beatrice's other win in that dual came from Abby Witulski at No. 5 singles. She won her match 8-0 over Sasha Glenn.
The No. 1 doubles team of Bletscher and Elliot fell 8-4 to Alexis Johnson and Brooklyn Schroeder. The No. 3 doubles team of Plessel and Price lost 8-1 to Julis Phillips and Ellie Ornel.
In the other singles matches, Elliot lost to Chloe Dworak 8-0, Burenheide lost to Caitlyn Anderson 8-2, Bletscher lost to Lyric Allen 8-1, Plessel lost to Taylor VanOstrand 8-0 and Price lost to Courtney Liesenmeyer 8-1.
The Lady O will be in action again on Thursday when they host Omaha Duchesne at Hannibal Park.
"They were last year's state runner-up," Randel said of Duchesne. "We are counting on some sunshine for that one."
