SYRACUSE -- The Beatrice cross country teams traveled to the Syracuse Invite on Friday and the girls finished third while the boys finished sixth.

Jamison Theye led the Lady O with a ninth place finish while Veronica Pinkerton finished 19th, Linda Humble finished 26th, Trinity Eichenberger finished 28th, Josie Guernsey finished 32nd and Abby Ware finished 35th.

Beatrice Coach Lyle Claussen Jamison and Eichenberger continue to run faster than races than they did last year on each course they compete on and Pinkerton and Guernsey are getting close to faster times.

"This is one of the goals of our program is for our runners to improve," Claussen said. "They both continue to turn in solid performances each week. Linda, a freshman, continues to turn in a strong effort each week. Abby, also a freshman, started the season in eighth position on the team has become a solid fifth or sixth runner on the varsity."

Claussen said Ware provided a perfect example of why a six runner can be as important as any member on the team.

"She was able to pass Auburn's fourth runner which pushed her back in scoring," Claussen said. "We slipped by Auburn by one point for third and a plaque. If Abby had been content to simply finish where she was, we would have been fourth in the team standings."

The boys team finished sixth and Brayden Frerichs led the way with a sixth place individual finish. Claussen said at the half way point, Frerichs was back in the 17th to 20th position.

"He again demonstrated his finishing ability over the final stretch," Claussen said.

Following Frerichs was Evan Oltmans in 35th, Trevor Smith in 37th, Adam Tjeerdsma in 49th, Noah Hagemeier in 50th and Devin Smith in 55th.

"As with the girls, several of the boys continue to fun faster times, especially Noah," Claussen said. "He has ran faster on all but one course this year. I believe that our boys are capable of running somewhat better, we just haven't put it together yet as a team."

Beatrice will travel to the River Cities Conference Meet on Thursday at Omaha Skutt.
