COLUMBUS -- The Beatrice softball team traveled to the Columbus Tournament on Saturday and won two out of three games.

Beatrice coach Dennis Dodge said it was a great weekend for his team.

"The defense played nearly flawless, the pitching was solid, the catching was great and the girls dominated the two Class A teams," Dodge said.

In their first game, the beat host team Columbus 13-1.

Addison Barnard had three hits, including a double, four RBI's and two runs scored. Olivia Aden had a triple, a double, a run and an RBI.

Arial Eggert, Carley Leners and Lexi Schwartz all h ad a double each. Bailey Green had two RBI's.

Green was also the winning pitcher, pitching three innings and giving up one run on one hit while striking out two. Jaci Berke pitched the fourth inning and struck out one.

In their second game, the Lady O beat Norfolk 8-0. They pounded out 12 hits in the game, including two solo home runs from Addison Barnard.

Jaci Berke had three singles and three RBI's. Hannah Lytle had two singles while Kaleigh Fielder and Whitney Schiwsow had a double each. Olivia Aden, Carley Leners and Lexi Schwartz had a single each.

Bailey Green pitched the first two innings and gave up no runs on no hits. Jaci Berke pitched the final three innings and gave up no runs on two hits.

In the tournament finale, Beatrice fell to Elkhorn 5-4. Beatrice did have nine hits in the game, three of which came from Barnard. One of Barnard's hits was a home run.

Lexi Schwartz also homered in the game while Hannah Lytle had a double and a single. Carley Leners had two singles while Olivia Aden also had a single.

Bailey Green suffered the loss, pitching six innings and giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out four and walking three.

"The team played well, but came up one run short of winning the championship against a very good Elkhorn team," Dodge said. "The team played with a lot of confidence and every player had at least one hit. Most had several."

Beatrice is now 9-11 on the season and will travel to Omaha Skutt on Thursday.
