The Beatrice wrestling team got five wrestlers into Saturday’s semifinals and a host of others still jockeying for a bid to the NSAA State Wrestling Championships next weekend.

Beatrice is the host team for the B2 District Tournament and after Friday night’s rounds, the Orangemen are currently in sixth place as a team with 43 points.

Northwest leads the way with 60, Schuyler is in second with 59.5, Hastings is third with 55.5, Elkhorn is fourth with 53.5 and Bennington is fifth with 46.5.

Tanner York, Drew Arnold, Ben Garland, Jason Stevens and Aaron Shumaker all reached Saturday’s semifinals.

In the 106-pound division, Tanner York received a first round bye and then defeated Trae Greve of Waverly 6-0 in the quarterfinals. He will wrestle in the semifinals on Saturday.

In the 113-pound division, Drew Arnold received a first round bye and then defeated Devon Ackles of Adams Central by pinfall to reach Saturday’s semifinals.

In the 132-pound division, Ben Garland won his first match by pinfall over Bennington’s Colby Puck. He then won his quarterfinal match by pinfall over Schuyler’s Edgar Cruz to reach Saturday’s semifinals.

In the 182-pound division, Jason Stevens received a first round bye and then won 11-5 over Kyle Patten of Hastings to reach Saturday’s semifinals.

Aaron Shumaker reached the semifinals of the 195-pound division after receiving a first round bye and then winning a sudden victory over Brian Maguire of Ashland Greenwood.

In the 120-pound division, Will Reimer received a first round bye, but then lost by pinfall to Grayson Fries of Northwest. He then received a bye in the second consolation round, so he will wrestle on Saturday.

In the 126-pound division, Kaleb Dayhuff received a first round bye, but then lost to Cameron Kort of Adams Central 11-4. Dayhuff won his consolation match against Kaleb Smith of Waverly by pinfall to reach Saturday’s rounds.

In the 138-pound division, Quintin Hartig received a first round bye, but lost his quarterfinal match by pinfall to Nolan Barry of Adams Central. Hartig then won his consolation match over Nicholas Abbott of Waverly by pinfall to reach Saturday’s rounds.

In the 145-pound division, Dylan Bassinger received a first round bye, but then lost to Caleb Ackles of Adams Central 13-4. Bassinger then won his consolation match over Matthew Sakalosky of Omaha Gross by pinfall to reach Saturday’s rounds.

In the 152-poun division, Coleton Williamson scored a pinfall win over Kyle Black of Falls City in the first round, but lost by pinfall to Northwest’s Dalton Quandt. Williamson received a bye in the consolation round, so he will be wrestling on Saturday.

In the 160-pound division, Sean Pinkerton lost his first round match by pinfall to Joe Keele of Hastings. He received a bye in the first consolation round and then lost in the second consolation round by pinfall to Connor Weis of Omaha Gross, eliminating Pinkerton from the tournament.

Parker Zulauf suffered a first round loss by pinfall to Cedric Relford of Elkhorn in the 170-pound division. Zulauf also received a consolation bye, but lost by pinfall to Aurora’s Eric Collazo in the consolation second round, eliminating him from the tournament.

In the 220-pound division, Jerad Humble won his first match by pinfall over Omaha Gross’ Luke Johnson, but then lost a sudden victory match to Logan Schuelke of Waverly. He received a bye in the consolation round, meaning he will be back on Saturday.

In the 285-pound division, Beatrice’s Caleb Ridgley lost by pinfall to Omaha Gross’ Giovani Lopez. He then received a bye in the consolation round. After receiving a bye in the first consolation round, Ridgley lost by pinfall to Waverly’s Damien Wylder in the second round, eliminating him from the tournament.

District wrestling action will pick up again Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at the Ozone in Beatrice.
