Tri County was able to sweep Lewiston in the first round of the MUDECAS B Division Monday afternoon.
The third-seeded Lady Trojans won 25-20, 25-23 over the Lady Tigers.
Tri County Coach Jamie Siems said a win is a win, but was disappointed in her team's effort.
"We played Lewiston last week and played much better," Siems said. "I knew right when we started warming up that we weren't ready to play. That's been our biggest challenge so far is getting the girls focused. This game was closer because of our own errors."
Tri County vaulted out to a 7-1 lead in the first set thanks to two ace serves from Kailey Weichel and kills by Shayna Lijewski and Brianna Connelly.
Lewiston would battle back and cut the deficit to 9-7. Masyn Arena and Dana Christen had kills during that run.
The two teams battled back and forth and the match was still close at 13-11, but Tri County scored the next three points behind kills from Lijewski and Madison Freese and an ace by Weichel.
Tri County then built their lead to 19-13 before Lewiston scored the next six points to make it 19018 and force a Tri County timeout. Megan Wehrbein had two kills during that run.
Out of the timeout, a kill and an ace serve by Freese made it 21-18. Lewiston scored twice to get within one point, but Tri County took care of business late to win 25-20.
Lewiston's Megan Wehrbein had seven kills and two blocks in the second set to keep her team in the game, but the Trojans were able to slowly build a 15-7 lead.
With the score 17-9, Lewiston scored the next four points to make it 17-13.
Tri County re-extended their lead to 19-12, but Lewiston scored the next six points to make it 19-18 and force a Trojan timeout.
Out of the timeout, Wehrbein tied it with an ace serve. With the score 20-20, Wehrbein then gave her team the lead for the first time with a kill, making it 21-20.
Tri County went on a 3-0 run to regain a 23-21 lead. Wehrbein's kill made it 23-22, but Tri County answered with a kill from Hannah Strein.
Another kill by Wehrbein got Lewiston within one again at 24-23, but an errant serve ended the set and the match.
Siems said they knew Lewiston would go to Wehrbein a lot, which they did.
"We should be able to control that, but we didn't," Siems said. "We will need to play a lot better tomorrow. It will be a lot different against a Sterling team we split with last year. I'm sure it will be a similar situation with both teams having all their girls back."
With the win, Tri County advances to the semifinals of the B Division, where they will play Sterling at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday night. Sterling advanced by defeating Johnson County Central 25-11, 25-17.
On the other side of the bracket, Palmyra beat Parkview Christian 25-3, 25-8 and will play in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday against the winner of Monday's late game between Southern and Pawnee City.
