It took three sets, but Tri County was able to play themselves into the MUDECAS B Division Championship game.

The third-seeded Lady Trojans defeated second-seeded Sterling 23-25, 25-23, 25-15 Tuesday night in the semifinals at Beatrice High School.

With the win, Tri County (4-2) will take on top-seeded Palmyra in the championship game Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Truman Center in Beatrice. Palmyra reached the finals by defeating Pawnee City 25-13, 25-17.

Tri County used a balanced attack against Sterling Tuesday night. Shayna Lijewski led the offense with nine kills while Kailey Weichel and Madison Freese had five kills each. Celena Chavez and Brianna Connelly had two kills each while Hannah Strein had one kill. Chavez also had 18 assists.

Weichel had four ace serves for the Lady Trojans. Chavez and Shae Wattjes had two ace serves each.

Defensively, Tri County got two blocks each from Connelly, Hannah Strein and Lijewski while Freese had one block. Weichel had 15 digs and Freese had 13 digs.

For Sterling, Colby Thies led the way with 13 kills while Sydney Huls had 10 kills, Malayna Wingert had four kills and Belle Haner had one kill. Carly Wenzl had 18 assists.

Wingert had three ace serves while Thies and Sheanna Stoltz had an ace serve each.

Defensively, Colby Thies had six blocks while Haner and Wenzl had a block each. Wingert had 15 digs and Haner had 11 digs.

Sterling will now play in a third place match Thursday against Pawnee City at 3:30 p.m. at the Truman Center.

In Pawnee City's loss to Palmyra, Miranda Branek had four kills while Becca Martin, Natalie Blecha, Cassie Martin and Jacky Schultheiss had a kill each.

The Indians are now 4-7 on the season while Palmyra remains undefeated at 7-0.

Third place: Sterling vs. Pawnee City 3:30 p.m.

Championship: Tri County vs. Palmyra 6:30 p.m.
