Ryan Held on Wednesday was kind of like the movie star who took time to thank the production assistants or the quarterback who always mentions his offensive linemen.
“It’s not just us as coaches; there’s a lot of other people that are involved in this from administrators to recruiting to (graduate assistants),” he said of the two-month push on the recruiting trail. “There’s so many people that made this deal happen today and for us to have success. Those people don’t ever get any credit, but I’ll tell you they do a heck of a job.”
Sometimes a recruiter or two is credited with landing several marquee players. Held appears to be no slouch on the trail himself. But for more than one standout, he indicated, continuity built over two years at Central Florida played a central role in the new staff getting as many kids to commit to Nebraska as it did.
“When we got up here, we basically just moved areas and now you know what you’re looking for and where our issues are and that really helped us,” he said. “Really, we didn’t miss a beat, to be honest with you. Everybody knows each other and how everybody is and our communication is really good and our recruiting guys do a great job.”
