A Du Bois man died after the car he was riding in was involved in a crash Thursday evening.
Just before 7 p.m. Thursday rescue workers responded to a two-vehicle injury crash at the intersection of Highway 77 and Highway 8. It was reported that one vehicle was on its side, and airbags had deployed in both vehicles.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, a gold 2005 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Alice Bryan, 58, of Wymore was northbound on Highway 77 approaching the Highway 8 intersection. A red 2015 Chevrolet Impala driven by Kay Farwell, 78, of Du Bois was southbound on Highway 77 approaching the Highway 8 intersection, then turned east in front of the Mercury.
Bryan struck the Impala in the intersection, causing Bryan’s car to flip on its side and Farwell’s vehicle to spin clockwise an estimated 70 feet east on to Highway 8.
Bryan was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital with non-life threating injuries.
A passenger of the Impala, Roy Farwell, 82, of Du Bois was transported to Bryan West by StarCare Air Ambulance with life-threating injuries.
He was later pronounced deceased at Bryan West.
Seatbelts were in use in both vehicles. Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
Wymore Fire and EMS, Blue Springs Fire, Beatrice Fire & Rescue, Nebraska State Patrol, and the Gage County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash.
