They sneak in and invade when you least expect it. Then, when you're at your most vulnerable, they seize their opportunity to attack. Next, they get nice and comfy where they are and settle in for the long haul, unless, of course, you take action and retaliate.
What am I talking about you ask? And what on earth does this have to do with the fitness challenge?
Well, let me explain. First of all, I'm talking about bacteria and viruses, and for me, this has a whole lot to do with this fitness challenge. You see, this is exactly what happened to me last week. It rapidly developed from a typical cold to a full-blown upper respiratory, sinus and double ear infection that landed me in the ER over the weekend for antibiotics.
Unfortunately, my symptoms were so severe that the doctor/nurses forbid me from working out at all last week and they said to plan on not doing anything this week either, as it usually takes about 2 full weeks to completely recover from all this crud. They advised me to get lots of rest and fluids and to take it as easy as possible to let my lungs heal, otherwise, it could develop into pneumonia. And that is the last thing I need right now.
So, despite my initial disappointment and frustration, I am following my orders. I'm cautiously optimistic though, that since I've still been watching my diet, I will be able to maintain my previous progress and pick up right were I left off. However, if I have lost some of my previous progress, I plan to work harder then ever to make it all up and then some. I refuse to let this unexpected illness derail all of my plans and goals.
You see, the bacteria and viruses may have temporarily stolen my good health, my energy, my sleep, my appetite and my ability to breathe deeply without coughing spasms, but I will not allow them to also steal my motivation, my determination, my positive attitude, my peace, or my joy. I know I'm far from the only one dealing with unexpected sickness right now and I hope that you too will choose to stay positive and focused on your goals as well. After all, that's the only way to beat these tiny invaders.
