Cheerleaders are not just young girls waving pom poms, dancing around and shouting inspirational chants to motivate a crowd. Actually, the definition of a cheerleader is an "enthusiastic and vocal supporter". Really, that could be anyone.
Cheerleading also takes various forms. Sometimes it's the "Wow! You're looking great lately! Keep up the good work!" from a friend. Other times it's the "Have you been sticking to the new diet and exercise routines lately?" from a family member. It can even be a "Are you sure you should really be eating that?" or a "Are you sure you should be skipping your workout today?" from a spouse.
It's all cheerleading though, because it's all coming from a place of love and concern that's meant to encourage and support, even if it may not feel like it in the moment. The truth is, however, we need all types. We need the kind that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside and the kind that makes us be brutally honest with ourselves and hold ourselves accountable to our goals.
Who are the cheerleaders in your life?
Mine are my husband, first & foremost, my children, my parents, my auntie, my nana, my extended family and my friends. Without their "enthusiastic & vocal support", I know that I wouldn't have been able to persevere through this challenge. Left to myself, I probably would have quit when things got tough or, at the very least, not pushed myself to accomplish nearly as much as I have so far.
Never have I needed my own cheerleaders as much as I do right now. Unfortunately, I accidentally injured my right toe/foot at home the other day.
Thankfully, the x-rays showed that nothing was broken, but the doctor said it was badly sprained and I needed to rest it and take it easy for at least the next week or so, which also happens to be the remainder of the challenge.
He did say that I can do some very light abdominal and arm workouts at home, but nothing that puts any extra pressure or strain on my foot, so that it can heal properly.
Obviously, I was feeling very frustrated and disappointed. I was frustrated at my own clumsiness and disappointed because I had so wanted to finish this race just as strongly as I had started it.
Unfortunately, that just won't be possible. Still, I plan to do my very best with what little I can do from home and finish what I started. I'm not quitting. I'm not giving up. Instead, I'm trying to stay as positive as I can and do the very best that I can, despite my unfortunate mishap.
Thankfully, I did have some good news in the midst of the bad. I finally reached my personal initial goal weight!! This has really motivated me to keep pressing onward and pushing forward. I'd still like to loose a few more pounds and gain a bit more muscle to tone up a little more, but I'm also very pleased with what I see in the mirror right now. Not to mention, the shopping for new clothes hasn't been too bad either!
So, please take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate all of the wonderful cheerleaders in your own life. I know I sure will. And on the days you most feel like giving up, remember, they're all rooting for you to succeed.
