A 15-year-old student in Jefferson County was taken into custody on suspicion of terroristic threats Monday after students at Meridian Public School in Daykin told authorities they’d received threatening text messages.
The students told sheriff's investigators they felt the text messages threatened the K-12 school about 50 miles southwest of Lincoln.
The threats were not specific, said Sheriff Nels Sorensen.
"I would say they were very vague, but with the world we live in we didn't take anything for granted."
Sheriff’s deputies arrived before school started Monday to investigate and took the teenage girl into custody on suspicion of terroristic threats, though the suspect was later returned to her mother's custody, according to a news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Jefferson County officials said there is no longer a threat to Meridian students. The case will be referred to the county attorney to make a decision about whether charges will be filed.
