Beatrice's American Legion Riders Post 27 is helping a local motorcycle club collect more toys for area kids this holiday season.
The riders made a monetary donation to the Defiant Few motorcycle club at the Veterans Club last week. The funds will go towards buying additional items for the Defiant Few's annual toy drive, which aims to ensure no child in Gage or Jefferson counties goes without a Christmas present this year.
The American Legion Riders have no direct affiliation with the Defiant Few, but Legion Riders director Neal Ostermann said the groups share an enthusiasm for motorcycles and helping the community.
"Our common bond as motorcycle enthusiasts draws us to support their drive each year with a small donation," Ostermann said.
Ed Thompson with the Defiant Few said the donation will go towards bigger money items like bikes that aren't typically donated.
"It will help us a lot; it will help us buy a lot of toys," Thompson said. "This will just really boost it."
The Defiant Few held a toy drive in November in Beatrice and Fairbury. They will have one more toy drive event on Dec. 15 at the Walmarts in Fairbury and Beatrice.
Only new toys are accepted and they should be unwrapped. The club also accepts cash donations. All money goes directly to purchase additional toys.
There is also a toy drop-off box located at the Sonic Drive-In in Beatrice.
For more information about the toy drive or if someone wishes to donate to the event and cannot make it to a drop-off location, message the Defiant Few via Facebook by searching for Defiant Few MC.
All donated and purchased toys will be handed out in the days before Christmas, although no specific date has been set, Thompson said last week.
