Two Fairbury residents were arrested following a probation search this week.
On Wednesday, the Nebraska Department of Probation and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a probation check at 113 Fifth St. in Fairbury.
The female who resided at the residence, Stacie Fentress, had an active warrant for her arrest out of Jefferson County for failure to appear in court from earlier that day.
The residence and an adjoining property to the east were both searched.
It was determined that items in the adjoining property were under the control of Melvin Brungardt.
A press release from the sheriff’s office stated Brungardt was also a resident of the property and was on probation at the time.
Brungardt had been arrested the previous day and was in the custody for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and other charges following a traffic stop on Tuesday.
During the search large amounts of illegal items were discovered, according to the press release. Methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were all recovered. Also located inside the residence were firearms, some of which had been defaced, large amounts of ammunition and evidence related to the distribution of controlled substances.
Brungardt, who is a convicted felon is not to be in possession of such items.
Fentress was arrested on her warrant out of Jefferson County Court and Brungardt remains in the custody. The case is under investigation, and further charges are pending.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Nebraska Department of Probation, Department of Health and Human Services, and Jefferson County Emergency Management.
