Recall election set for Wymore council member

  • 0

The recall election for Wymore City Councilman Dan Hawkins will take place  Tuesday.

Residents in Wymore Ward 1 will be able to vote from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Tuesday at the Wymore Community Center.

The recall effort was initiated by Wymore citizen Lee Carr after Hawkins departed five consecutive council meetings early to prevent Beth Cordry-Hookstra from being appointed to the council.

Hawkins departures left the council short of a quorum, preventing the council from continuing its meetings or taking other business actions.

In Hawkins’ response to Carr’s petition, he indicated that he left the meetings because of Mayor Dan Guenther’s refusal to acknowledge and present other experienced candidates that had also applied for the vacancy.

Since then, Sue Sapp’s name was brought forth by Guenther to fill the vacant council seat and she was approved unanimously.
