Jorja and Foley

Jorja Boller with Lt. Gov. Mike Foley at the Serve Nebraska Step Forward Youth Volunteer award ceremony at Quarry Oats Golf Club in Ashland. Jorja was recognized for her volunteers effort at the Good Samaritan Society.

An 10-year-old from Beatrice received an award for her volunteer work with the Good Samaritan Society.

Jorja Boller, 10, has been volunteering for a little over 3 years at the nursing home and assisted living center in Beatrice. Jorja recently received the Serve Nebraska Step Forward Youth Volunteer award at a ceremony at Quarry Oats Golf Club in Ashland.

She created her own fundraiser called “Gifts for Grands” and raises money for Christmas gifts for residents.

When Jorja hosts a birthday party, people bring donations for her fundraiser or food for the food pantry instead of a gift. She volunteers for at least two hours every Wednesday at the nursing or the assisted living centers, according to a press release.

During the summer, Jorja helps with bingo, baking, crafts and reading with the residents. She has also mentored her 6-year-old sisters and she now comes in and also enjoys visiting with residents, the release stated.

Jorja volunteers 80-120 hours every year and is also active with swimming, softball, 4-H and pageants.

"She is a pillar of the young community as well as older teens," the release stated. "I do not see anyone else volunteering as much as she does or has already done at her age."
