The Gage County Board of Supervisors has a new leader.
The board voted on Wednesday for Erich Tiemann to serve as the chairman of the board and lead the meetings moving forward.
Tiemann is beginning his second term on the board, representing Gage County’s third district that consists of the general southeastern portion of Beatrice, Belvidere, the country club and Beatrice High School.
Tiemann said that in addition to leading meetings, the board chairman deals with negotiations and other behind the scenes projects.
“I think this will be a new challenge for me,” he said. “Last year everything was based on how to deal with the Beatrice 6. We’ll continue dealing with that and also maintain roads and go through our daily operations.”
Wednesday was the County Board’s first regular meeting since officials took the oath of office on Jan. 3.

Tiemann is the county’s representative on the NGage economic development group, and is also a board member of the Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce. He's currently the vice president of both R.L. Tiemann Construction and Beatrice Lawn Care.
Tiemann was unanimously voted as the chairman by his fellow board members, and the position also serves as the chairman of the Board of Equalization.
“It’s nice to have the support of your board,” Tiemann said. “I’ll try to do a really good job for both the board and people of Gage County.”
He replaces past chairman Myron Dorn, who did not seek another term on the County Board. Dorn is instead beginning his first term with the Nebraska Legislature as the District 30 representative.
His seat on the County Board is now being held by Eddie Dorn, who was elected to the position last November.
At Wednesday’s meeting Gary Lytle was voted to once again serve as vice chairman of the County Board.
