An inmate serving a life sentence at the Lincoln Correctional Center died at a hospital Tuesday after an apparent suicide, the Department of Correctional Services said.

Steven Braesch, 46, was found unresponsive in his cell shortly after 9:30 a.m. Monday. Resuscitation attempts were made before he was transported to Bryan West Campus.

Braesch was convicted of shooting his father to death at the family home in Gretna in 2013. He was serving a life sentence, plus five years for first-degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony and several charges of negligent child abuse. His sentence began Nov. 17, 2014.

The Nebraska State Patrol and a grand jury will investigate the death as required by law.
