Judge agrees to delay jail for ex-Memorial Stadium announcer

A judge has agreed to delay the 180-day jail sentence for former Memorial Stadium public-address announcer Patrick Combs.

Combs originally had been set to report to jail on Tuesday.

In court records, Lancaster County District Judge Robert Otte said Combs' probation officer recommended it be deferred to Nov. 14, 2022, the end of his probation term, because he is in full compliance and has paid all of his fees.

Otte declined to extend the deferral that long, but pushed it out a year.

Combs, 53, of Gretna, was convicted at trial of bilking an 88-year-old Lincoln widow of more than $100,000 and attempting to steal $1.75 million.

A year ago, Otte sentenced him to five years' probation and 180 days' jail and ordered him to pay $45,000 in fines.
