State Patrol grenade

The Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Squad safely destroyed this grenade found in the dumpster at a Talmage home on Monday.

The Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Squad safely destroyed a live grenade found in a dumpster outside a Talmage home Monday, an agency spokesman said.

People cleaning out the home of a resident who had died discovered the grenade and called the Otoe County Sheriff's Office, Cody Thomas said in a news release.

The sheriff's office called the bomb squad, which removed it from the area and used a counter-charge to dispose of the grenade, Thomas said.

The bomb squad's commander, Lt. Dain Hicks, encouraged people who find grenades or other explosives to call law enforcement for help and to not move the device.
