Authorities arrested a man suspected of stealing a firearm that was later sold as part of a controlled purchase by Beatrice police.
Allen E. Reed, 43, was arrested on a warrant in connection with the stolen Hi Point 9mm handgun.
On Nov. 21, the burglary victim notified police that the handgun and a television were taken from his house. The victim said that he suspected Reed stole the items, according to court documents.
Ten days later, Beatrice police conducted a controlled purchase of the alleged stolen gun from Davis Hooper, who later said he bought the gun and some marijuana from Reed for around $60.
A confidential informant met Hooper in the 1400 block of Grant Street and gave him $100 for the gun and another $20 for marijuana, according to Gage County court documents.
Hooper allegedly admitted there was a handgun in the vehicle and showed officers where it was.
The handgun and a magazine with ammunition were recovered. Hooper told police he knew the gun was stolen when he purchased it.
The victim went to the police department and identified the stolen gun as being his.
Reed is charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a stolen firearm and theft by receiving stolen property in the case. His next hearing is Dec. 10.
