An inmate at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution gave a prison staffer a concussion Thursday night while fighting with three staff members, prison officials say.

The incident took place around 9:20 p.m., after staff members found the inmate on the floor of his cell and took him to the prison's nursing facility.

"During this time, the inmate went limp and then began to fight the three staff members who were escorting him," the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said in a news release.

The inmate kicked one staffer in the face, causing the concussion, the release said.

The Corrections Department provided no other information, but said the incident will be investigated.
