The Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce is showcasing the best holiday light displays around town with its first annual Holiday Lighted Tour.
Eleven houses are currently featured on a map distributed by the Chamber at last week's Holiday Lighted Parade and on Facebook.
The public is encouraged to vote on their favorite residential and commercial display via Facebook or by calling or emailing the Chamber through Dec. 15.
"Anything we can do to promote people to get out and about and appreciate the community is a good thing for the Chamber," said Angie Bruna, Chamber director. "It drives traffic for us."
Bruna said the Chamber decided to hold the tour because many people reached out in the past asking about the best light displays. The tour also features the Gage County Courthouse and downtown Beatrice along Court Street.
Paul and Patty Kaufman's house at 1205 S. Fifth Ave. is one of the houses on the tour.
Their 9,000-LED-light display dazzles with colorful, lit-up trees and a nativity, attracting onlookers throughout the holiday season. Patty said the display has been her husband's annual project in each of the three houses they've lived in since they were married.
"He just really likes to have people enjoy them," Patty said.
To have your home/business featured, you can email the Chamber at firstname.lastname@example.org for a sign-up form, or you can stop by the Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce to pick one up. Entry is free.
The winners will be recognized by the Chamber with a commemorative plaque.
"People go where the lights are; it creates a buzz," said Bruna. "We just encourage people to get out and enjoy Christmas."
