Alta Mae Phillips, 86, of Omaha, formerly of Beatrice died in Omaha on January 7, 2019. She was born August 4, 1932 on the family farm near Chester, NE. She was baptized on August 21, 1932 at St. John Lutheran Church of rural Byron and later confirmed on March 30, 1947. She attended grade school in a one-room school and graduated from Chester High School in 1949. She then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, College of Home Economics, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics on June 8, 1953. She was an honorary member of Phi Upsilon Omicron. She student taught in Lyons, NE and met Kenneth H. Phillips. They married June 11, 1953 at St. John Lutheran Church of Byron, NE. She taught in Brainard, NE, Salina, KS, and Wilcox, NE and was a life-member of the Kansas Parent Teacher Organization. She helped operate the Hotel Dale in Holdrege and the United Rental Store in Kearney. Throughout her life, she was strong in her faith and active in church activities, taught Sunday School, was a member of the altar guild and participated in Bible Study. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, needlework, playing golf, and having vegetable and flower gardens. She loved to entertain, was an excellent cook, enjoyed tea parties and wearing hats for many occasions. She made many friends wherever she resided. Her family is very appreciative for her Beatrice neighbors who helped her in many ways before she moved to Omaha.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Colin) Niles of Omaha and Karen (John) Eihusen of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Julie (Adam) Wiekamp of Lincoln, Jeffery (Mindy) Eihusen and Kelli Eihusen all of Omaha; five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Alyssa and Gabriella Wiekamp and Maisy and William Eihusen; brother, Dwight (Janice) Reinke of Tulsa, OK; nieces, Sandra (John) Connelly of Salt Lake City, UT and Julie Reinke of Tulsa, OK; nephew, Curtis (Mary) Johnson of Hastings, NE; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ludwig and Ruby Luhrs Reinke; her husband, Kenneth Phillips, nephew, Phillip Johnson and sister-in-law, Roberta Johnson.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.. at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor Leah Lawson officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be in the Deshler City Cemetery of Deshler at 2:00 p.m.. on Saturday. There will be no viewing. A memorial has been established to

A register book for signatures will be available at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice on Friday from noon to 8:00 P.M. with the family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m.. to 7:00 p.m.. and at the church one hour preceding the services on Saturday.
