Amanda M. Krebs, 90, of Fairbury formerly of Beatrice, died on Thursday, January 14, 2010.

She was born on Sept. 15, 1919, at Jansen and was baptized and confirmed at Hope Evangelical Reformed Church of rural Harbine. She was a member of that church which later became known as the United Church of Christ, joining with the church in Diller.

She attended rural school near Harbine through the eighth grade and graduated from Diller High School in 1937.  After taking normal training, she taught school for two years at District No. 42 north of Diller. During the summer of those years, she played softball.

She was married to Clarence Krebs on April 22, 1939, at Hope Evangelical Reformed Church, and they lived and farmed in the Diller area until moving to Beatrice in 1996. They lived in Beatrice until moving to Gardenside in Fairbury in October of 2006.

She was a member of the Diller United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Ladies Fellowship. She was an avid gardener and had many other interests, including oil painting, sewing, quilting, bowling and playing cards. She also belonged to the Merry Modern Extension Club for many years. It was always a joy when grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit.

Survivors include three daughters, Ruth Horsky and husband Larry and Jean Weers and husband Melvin, all of Diller, and Judith Mulvey and husband Jack of Rockford, Ill.; five granddaughters, Gayle Snider and husband Vern, Julie Sandman and husband Steve, Sara Griesen, Staci Daniels and husband Mike and Ashley Mulvey; two grandsons, Mark Weers and wife Rachelle and Steve Horsky and wife Lisa; 18 great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Doris Achtemeier of Fairbury, Bethel Krebs of Lincoln, Dorothy Krebs and husband Orville of Wilsonville, Ore., Phyllis Wiemers and husband Delmar of Diller and Faye Schmidt and husband Edwin of Diller; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Emma Eilert Achtemeier; her husband Clarence, who died on Dec. 12, 2006; and her brother, Ralph.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Diller with Pastor Mark Liscom officiating. Burial will be at the Prairie Home Cemetery of Diller. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with the Fox Funeral Home in charge. A family prayer service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the fellowship room of the church. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home, 19th and Garfield streets, Beatrice, until 9 p.m. Sunday and then one hour preceding the service at the church on Monday. The family will meet and greet friends and relatives at Fox Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A guest book for signatures and messages of condolence is available online at www.foxfuneralhome.net.
