Dick 'D. D.' Pelham
Dick “D. D.” Pelham, 81, Horseshoe Bay, Texas, died April 24, 2018 after a short illness at his home in Texas. He was born on October 29, 1936 at Beatrice and at the age of five went to live with his aunt in Cookeville, Tenn. He returned within the same year to Beatrice on the train by himself with his paperwork on a string around his neck. He graduated from Beatrice High School in 1955. He spent a year in California, returned to Nebraska and graduated from Fairbury Jr. College and then UNL in 1964 with a degree in Business Administration. He went to work at Hallam/Sheldon and Omaha Public Power District for a short time and then for General Electric, working in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Louisiana before retiring after over 35 years of service. After Hurricane Katrina, he moved to Horseshoe Bay for a view of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson. He joined a Classic Car Club and showed his classic cars in shows in that area. He also traveled to many different places in the United States and a number of foreign countries in Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. He came back to Nebraska every year to attend a Nebraska football game and the State Fair. He also came back for every high school class reunion until his death.
Survivors include sister, Pam Watts of Beatrice; two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis R. Pelham and Ruby E. Wilson; and brother-in-law, Robert “Buck” Watts.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Fox Funeral Home with Rev. David A. Bigley officiating. Burial will be at the Pleasant View Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A memorial has been established to the Beatrice Educational Foundation. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home on Thursday from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. Please wear casual clothing preferably Husker Red or Beatrice Orange and Black. www.foxfuneralhome.net.
