Donald H. Zarybnicky, age 88, Odell, passed away December 6, 2018 at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln. He was born on the family farm in Odell, September 29, 1930 to Frank and Mary (Prebyl) Zarybnicky. Don was baptized, made his first communion, was confirmed and a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Odell. Don was married to Barbara Peperkorn on August 21, 1965, in Gilead. Don lived on the farm for 71 years until he and Barbara moved into Odell in 2001. Don attended Banner School District 112 and graduated from Odell High School in 1947. Don served in the Korean War in 1952-1953. During his many years on the farm, Don farmed and raised cattle while also working as a field reporter for the Farm Service Agency from 1964 to 2014. He also ran the road grader for Paddock Township for 12 years, served on the Paddock Township board and worked as an adjuster for Federal Crop Insurance for three years. Don enjoyed playing cards and bingo with the Senior Citizens group and working on lawn mowers and sharpening blades and chain saws.
Don is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons Kenneth and wife Margaret of Elkhorn, Larry and wife Rhonda of Beatrice, Edward and fiancé Carla of Odell, and daughter Susan Shaw and husband William of Leesburg, VA; grandchildren Hunter Zarybnicky of Omaha, Landon Zarybnicky and Bailey Zarybnicky of Beatrice, Matthew Zarybnicky of Elkhorn, Trevor Zarybnicky of Grinnell, KS, and Christian and Lauren Shaw of Leesburg, VA; step-grandchildren, Armando, Haley, Ezekiel and Xavier Jones of Odell, sisters-in-law Eleanor Zarybnicky of Odell and Betty Witulski of Beatrice; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary; brothers, Ernest, Art and wife Martha; sister Evelyn Meints and husband Harold; parents-in-law Fred and Veronica Peperkorn; and brother-in-law Charles Witulski.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 10, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Odell. Rosary will be held on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at Vance Gerdes Funeral Home in Odell. Family will greet friends following the Rosary. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Odell. Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home in Odell is in charge of arrangements. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
