Dorothy I. Thompson, 89, of Beatrice died at her home on Friday, November 1, 2019.

She was born November 12, 1929 at rural Pickrell and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. She attended Hartzell Country School. She married Fredrick Thompson on May 7, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church and they lived and farmed near Adams. They moved to the Filley area in 1968 and then into Beatrice in 2003. She worked at BSDC for several years. She was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church of Pickrell and now a member of Cornerstone Lutheran Church of Beatrice. She enjoyed working in her garden, growing her strawberry patch, butchering chickens, playing cards, visiting with friends, and being with her family and grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Lyle (Donna) Thompson of Lincoln; daughter, Kathy (Monty) Barnard of Beatrice; daughter-in-law, Susan Thompson of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Stacy (Ron) Lewandowski of Beatrice, Jill (Zach) Navrkal of Lincoln, Scott (Jaime) Thompson of Kansas City, Mo., Mandy (Frank) Ewurs of Des Moines, Iowa and Dustin Thompson of Beatrice; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth (Phyllis Truscott) Buss and Richard (Carol) Buss; five sisters, Delores Schlake, Arlene Schlake, Darlene Penner, Marilyn (Melvin) DeBuhr and Karen (Don) Schmidt; sisters-in-law, LaVona Buss and Margie Waltke; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman F. and Tena Ida Jurgens Buss; her husband, Fredrick, who died February 26, 2005, two sons, Galen and Merlyn; granddaughter, Shelly Thompson; great-grandsons, Andrew Lewandowski and infant Lewandowski; brother, Dallen Buss; sister, Eleanor Ideus; three brothers-in-law, Vernon Schlake, Miley Schlake and Wilfred Ideus.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the Cornerstone Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor Doyle Karst officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell preceding the funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. A memorial has been established to Cornerstone Lutheran Church, Aseracare Hospice and the Community Food Pantry. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice Sunday, 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. and Monday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and not at the church on Tuesday.
