Harvey Leroy Schmidt, beloved husband and father, died on May 1, 2019. Harvey was born in Blue Springs, Nebraska on September 21, 1934. He graduated from DeWitt High School and the University of Nebraska with a degree in Business Administration. He served in the Army from February 1957 to February 1959 at Fort Chaffee in Arkansas. He met the love of his life, Shirley Jones in Beatrice, Nebraska and they married in 1962. In 1964, their first daughter, Mary Margaret was born followed by Barbara Lynn in 1968. Harvey worked for the City of Lincoln for many years and retired as City Treasurer in 1999. After retirement he enjoyed traveling with family and spending time with his grandsons, Joshua and Geoffrey.

Some of his favorite times were spent at Cottonwood Beach in Southeast Nebraska and watching University of Nebraska Lincoln sports, particularly football, women's basketball and volleyball to which he had season tickets for many years. Harvey was also a longstanding member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Harvey was preceded in death by his mother, Angeline (Kudlik) Schmidt and father, Reuben Schmidt; one brother Gene Barber and sisters-in-law Betty Lou Barber and Lucille (Jones) Kramer. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Jones) Schmidt; daughters Mary Schmidt Rodriguez and Barbara Bittner; son-in-law Gary Bittner; grandsons Joshua Rodriguez and Geoffrey Bittner. Brothers Norman Barber, Raymond Schmidt and wife Roby, Francis Schmidt and wife Dorothy, and Donald Schmidt. Many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Wyuka Funeral Home.

Visitation from noon to 6 p.m. p.m. with family greeting friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Wyuka Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Wyuka Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Parkinson's Nebraska or the Capital Humane Society in Lincoln.
