Ileen Marie (Holsing) Wallman

Ileen Marie (Holsing) Wallman, 95, of Beatrice passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Center in Beatrice.

She was born on July 23, 1923 to Henry and Sophie (Spilker) Holsing at Clatonia, Nebraska spending her childhood days on the farm south of Clatonia and attending grade school at District 42, a country school a little over a mile from her home. She graduated from Clatonia High School with the class of 1944. During World War 2 she was employed at Store Kraft Manufacturing Company in the assembly department constructing wings of the radio-controlled target planes and later was employed at Dempster Mill Manufacturing in the office.

On April 11, 1948 Ileen married Alvin Wallman at St. Paul Lutheran Church-DeWitt, Nebraska. While her husband worked as an electric serviceman for forty years at the Beatrice Board of Public Works, she worked as a dedicated mother and volunteer for the couples five children. To support their family, the couple operated Wallman Tree Service where she served as the bookkeeper. They enjoyed the challenge of remodeling and managing rental properties as well as maintaining a large garden and orchard to feed their family. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church teaching Sunday School for more than twenty-five years, attending Circle and serving on many committees. Ileen received the Honorary Life Member of the Parent-Teacher Association and also served many years as a leader in 4-H, Brownies and Cub Scout programs. She enjoyed her membership in the Skillful Sister's Extension Club. During retirement the couple bowled with friends throughout the states and traveled to Germany and Hawaii. They purchased Alvin's family farm fulfilling their lifetime dream of farming the earth and upgrading wildlife habitat.

Survivors include her daughter Janice Gengenbach and husband Dr. Dennis of Smithfield, NE, son Dale Wallman and wife JoAnn of Roca, daughter Donna Wallman of Beatrice, son Robert Wallman of Beatrice, and son Dr. Ron Wallman and wife Annette of Seward. Grandchildren include Nate Gengenbach and wife Nikki, Dr. Darcy Schlothauer of Gering, Chris Wallman and friend Heidi Hoglund, Mitch Wallman and wife Jennifer, Anne Bigbee and husband Dan and Dr. Lindsey Kock and husband Evan. Great-grandchildren are Micah, Hannah, Macy, Max, Clare, Jonathan, Samuel, Sawyer, Silas and Adelyn. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Beverly Holsing and Janet Wallman as a well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Sophie (Spilker) Holsing, parents-in-laws John and Sophia Wallman, siblings Ervin Holsing and wife Verna, Elda Bergmeier and husband Richard, Melvin Holsing, and infant sister Marie, as well as brothers-in-law Emil Wallman and wife Margaret, Peter Wallman and wife Carrie and Bernard Wallman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2019 at the St. John Lutheran Church with Reverend Leah Lawson officiating. Interment at the Zion Cemetery, R. Pickrell. Visitation Sunday from 11:00 a.m.– 8:00 p.m. at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel with family greeting friends from 4-6:00 p.m., and at the church one hour preceding the service on Monday. Family prayer service will be at 10:15 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials designated to the family's choice with Vic and Alvera Bade in charge.
