James A. “Jim” Meints, 67, of Pickrell, died unexpectedly at his home on Jan. 9, 2019. He was born Feb. 9, 1951 in Beatrice to Walter Lee and Katie Gronewold Meints.
He was baptized on Feb. 20, 1951 and later confirmed on April 24, 1966 at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. He attended Hartzell Country School and graduated from Filley High School in 1969. After High School, he started working for E & K Drywall out of Lincoln while farming with his father. He went on to raise hogs and farm with his son, Curt and brother David and then worked for Daubendiek Drywall with his son, Nick. He was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell while serving on the Zion Cemetery Board, Parish Education Committee, Zion Park Board and LMM. He was also a member of the Pickrell Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, volleyball, basketball, farming and being outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. The family remembers Jim always smiling and no matter how bad Jim felt, he always took time to ask you how you were doing.
Survivors include four sons, Ryan Meints and fiancée Kelly Pella, Shawn Meints and wife Bethany, Nick Meints and wife Lindsey and Curtis Meints and fiancée Miranda Kelle all of Beatrice; his mother, Katie Meints of Adams; 12 grandchildren, Carly Meints, Brandon and Cristell Schmidt, Bailey Pella, Devon Pella, Shelby Meints, Skylar Meints, Brooklynn Meints, Aubrie Hill, Madyson Hill, Halah Lamberti, Everly Meints and Luna Meints, one brother, David Meints and wife Carrye of Beatrice; two sisters, Dianne Zimmerman and husband, Elmer Jr. of Beatrice and Sandy Mahler of Virginia; many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Meints and brother, Johnny Meints.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Monday in the fellowship hall. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with Terry and DeAnn Oltman in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice on Saturday from 4-7 p.m., on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and at the church one hour preceding the services on Monday. www.foxfuneralhome.net Fox Funeral home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
