Kathryn “Katie” Wilson, 76, of Beatrice passed away at Bryan Health West in Lincoln Friday evening, Jan. 25, 2019. She was born on Aug. 20, 1942 in El Paso, TX to Stanley and Dorothy (Oldham) Stromitis, and was a graduate of Southern High School in Wymore. She and Darrell Wilson were married on Feb. 23, 1963. Katie had been employed as a nurse aid at the Beatrice State Developmental Center and at the former Lutheran Hospital, had worked at Dempsters, was in the Assembly department at Neapco for 22 years before her retirement, and had cleaned at various homes including for the Weston family. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and had been involved with a ladies circle and the Altar Society; and was a volunteer at the Beatrice Humane Society. Katie enjoyed family activities, going out for lunch, drinking coffee, traveling, bowling, dogs (especially poodles), and collected dolls and Beanie Babies.
Survivors include husband Darrell; son Stanley Wilson of Beatrice; granddaughter Jessica Wilson of Beatrice; siblings Mary Lou (Don) Frawley of Monte Vista, Colo., Mike (Cheryl) Stromitis of North Platte, Clara Siske of Littleton, Colo., Julia Skalla of Beattie, Kans., John Stromitis of Beatrice, and Chris “Tina” (Steven) Kennedy of Brownsville; brother and sister in laws Jan (Wayne) Houseman of Beatrice, and Larry (Edie) Wilson of Scottsbluff; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Katie was preceded in death by her parents; parents in law Raymond and Helen Wilson; and two infant sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beatrice with Father Robert Barnhill officiating. Burial of her ashes will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery in Pickrell at a later date. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place, but a register book will be available for signatures Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with the family greeting friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Rosary service 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
