Lawrence L. Tegtmeier
Lawrence Lou Tegtmeier, youngest child of August and Emma Gottula Tegtmeier, passed away December 23, 2018 at the age of 95. Lawrence had three sisters and five brothers who all preceded him in death.
Lawrence was born April 17, 1923 on the family farm three miles south of Lewiston and was delivered by Lewiston's Dr. Douglass. Lawrence started his education at District 25 and had the pleasure of riding to and from school in a Model T school bus. Lawrence's favorite sports were baseball and basketball, which he played quite well. He continued his education at Lewiston High School, and graduated in 1940, the same year he lost his father.
Lawrence was inducted into the Army on January 15, 1945 and was honorably discharged December 3, 1946. He served in WWII, and later was sent to the Philippines and Korea.
Lawrence came back to Nebraska after his time in the Army and farmed the home place with his brother, Raymond, for about a year, then farmed for himself for many years. He met Betty Rossell on a blind date in 1952. After two years of dating, they were married at Salem United Church of Christ on January 4, 1954. Three daughters were born to this union: Sandra Jean, Connie Sue, and Barbara Elaine. Lawrence's passions were farming and raising cattle. He was a very hard-working man, and never took a lot of time off. Lawrence was a lifelong member of Salem United Church of Christ, where he had served as Treasurer and Elder. He also served on the Lewiston School Board. Lawrence and Betty lived on their farm two miles south of Lewiston until their retirement. They then moved to Perryton, Texas where they resided for ten years. They moved to Beatrice in 2004, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2014, residing together until April of 2017, when Lawrence's declining health made it necessary for him to move to a nursing home.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, August and Emma (Gottula) Tegtmeier, brothers Albert, Raymond, Ervin (Swede), LaVern, and Ernest, and sisters Irene, Lola and Ruth.
He is survived by his wife Betty, daughters Sandra Tegtmeier, Connie Brown and Barb Tegtmeier, and grandchildren Elizabeth Brown and Chris Brown.
