Michael Jay Timke, 63, of Beatrice passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital on Sunday, January 19, 2020. He was born September 8, 1956 at Beatrice to Melvin and Christena (Reins) Timke, the youngest of four children. He was received as a child of God in Holy Baptism on September 23, 1956 by Pastor L.H. Kniep of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Beatrice. In 1967, Michael was enrolled in the School of New Hope. He attended the Disciples Sunday School from 1972 – 1978. He graduated from the School of New Hope in 1978. On December 4, 1978, Michael became a resident of Martin Luther Home in Beatrice. Michael was confirmed in 1985 by Chaplain Carl E. Kramer of the Martin Luther Home. His confirmation verse was Colossians 2:6-7. “Since you have accepted Christ Jesus as the Lord, live in union with Him. Keep your roots deep in Him, build your lives on Him and become stronger in your faith, as you were taught and be filled with thanksgiving.” He attended school at Martin Lutheran Home and was employed at the workshop and the community cleaning crew. He took part in the Chapel Chime Choir and was a member of the Beatrice Jaycees. He participated in the Special Olympics events of bowling and swimming. He was a life-long member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and took great pride in ringing the church bell on his birthday. He enjoyed his “paper art” of making crosses and churches. He enjoyed latch hook, puzzles, making covered hangers, music, dances especially the Chicken Dance, and riding the ferris wheel at the county fair. He loved life and with the caring staff at Mosaic, he was able to experience work, travel, friendships and much more.
Survivors include his brother, Kenneth (Joan) Timke of Hampshire, IL and sister, Elaine (Larry) Frerichs of Wymore; nephews, Eric and Bryan Timke; nieces, Monica Ray, Meghan Timke, Stacy Church and Nicole Sperling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin (1988) and Christena (Reins)(1999) Timke and his brother, Eldon Timke (1970).
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, January 24, 2010 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Chuck Bentjen and Pastor Eric Spruth-Janssen officiating. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. at the church on Friday. A memorial has been established to the family for future designation with Jr. and Dianne Zimmerman in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Friday.
