Paul James Sprandel, age 78 of Beatrice passed away peacefully on April 3, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Clarence and Edna (Wieting) on May 7, 1940 at the Lutheran Hospital in Beatrice. He was received into the Covenant of Grace our Lord makes in Holy Baptism on June 2, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plymouth with his grandfather, Rev. William Sprandel, officiating. Paul affirmed the faith of his Baptism in the Rite of Confirmation on April 4, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Martin Helmer officiating.
Paul grew up on a farm near Plymouth and attended school at Immanuel Lutheran Plymouth High and Beatrice High School where he was a member of the class of 1958. He served his country in the National Guard from 1958 to 1964. On April 19, 1980 in the chapel of St. John's Lutheran Church, Paul and Janice M. (Delabar) Parde were united in Holy Matrimony by Rev. Alton Schwandt and Paul became Dad to Cindy and Steve. They resided in Beatrice where Paul worked for Masters Construction, Farm Automation, Balderson Construction (1958-1983), Store Kraft Manufacturing (1983-1997), Thompson Construction (1997-2000), Beatrice Glass Co., and retired from Norris Public Power (March 2001 – April, 1, 2014). He also did the maintenance, mowing, and snow removal at Colonial Square Apartments (1986-2002) and the American Legion (1992-2010).
Paul became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church on October 4, 1981 where he served as an usher and was a past member of the stewardship committee. He is also a past member of the American Legion, Beatrice Eagles Club, and the Beatrice Gun Club.
Paul was a quiet, kind, and hard-working man who enjoyed his work, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, car races, watching Nebraska sports, and doing word finds. Most of all, Paul loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and their activities.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Janice of Beatrice; son, Steve Parde and wife Erin and their daughter, Sophia of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter, Cindy Ronspies and her children, Kelsey, Kyle, Drew and their father Brad Ronspies of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Betty Sprandel of Jackson, Missouri; brother-in-law Larry Delabar and wife Jeanne of Beatrice; several nieced and nephews and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence (1984) and Edna (1986); brothers, Otis (1936) and Dennis (2011); Parents-in-law, Dillard (1987) and Marie (1994).
Funeral services will be held on Monday April 8, 2019 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor Leah Lawson officiating. A family prayer service will begin at 1:45 p.m. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice on Sunday from 1-8 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service Monday. A memorial has been established to the family's choice for future designation with Kathy Epp and Marilyn Brolhorst in charge.
