Rebecca 'Becky' Sue Gerdes
Rebecca “Becky” Sue Gerdes, 67, of Humboldt, Neb. was born on March 16, 1950, in Pawnee City, Neb. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1968. Throughout the years, Becky worked in the food services industries. She owned “B's Camp,” co-owned “Mom's Café,” served as a kitchen manager for Southeast Consolidated School and managed the Harvey-Mann Legion Club Post 269 in Humboldt, where she was also an active member of the Legion Auxiliary.
On March 16, 1984, Becky had found the love of her life and married Loren Gerdes at the Christian Church in Beatrice. The couple moved to Humboldt and were married 24 years until Loren's passing in 2008. Becky enjoyed cooking, playing pool, darts, going to the casino, playing cards and crocheting. But most of all, she loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and friends.
Becky passed away on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, having reached the age of 67 years, 10 months and 13 days. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Loren Gerdes; her mother, Eunice (Harshbarger) Beem; her father, C.E. “Slim” Beem; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Gerdes; a sister, Dixie Hager; her nephew, Darren Hager; her brothers-in-law, Tim Hergenrader and Ronald Hager; and her sister-in-law, Carol Duff.
Becky is survived by her children, Scott (Terri) Otto of Humboldt, Angelia (Thomas) Lazarski of Middletown, Md. and Wendy Williamson of Hastings; five grandsons; two granddaughters; her brothers, Lyle (Denise) Amos of Summerville, S.C. and Ken Duff of Bakersfield, Calif.; her sisters, Diane (Chuck) ConCannon of Haymarket, Va. and Harriet Hergenrader of Homer, Neb.; her brother-in-law, Gary (Linda) Gerdes of Humboldt; her sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Tom) Glathar of Lincoln and Donna Donavon of Kansas City, Mo.; her step-mother, Jerry Beem of Falls City; her step-brothers, Gene Hayes of Phoenix, Ariz., Dave Hayes of Buckeye, Ariz. and Keith (Snooks) Hayes of Falls City; her step-sister, Sue (Lee) Alders of Kansas City, Mo.; Mary Jo (Jim) Huettner of Verdon, Neb.; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at the Christian Church in Humboldt, Neb., with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating. Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at the Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Neb. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary. Inurnment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the wishes of the family, with a later designation.
