Rose Barbara Vitosh, 100, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Cacek) Bures, passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at the Beatrice Manor.
Rose was born March 24, 1909, northwest of Odell. She attended Enterprise School District No. 130 northwest of Odell. She was united in marriage to Joseph A. Vitosh Sept. 10, 1929, in Beatrice and lived on a farm five miles north and one west of Odell for almost 50 years before moving to their home in Odell, where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 10, 1979. Eight children, six sons and two daughters, were born to this union.
She enjoyed helping with the farm work, milking, gardening, canning, dancing, and watching the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their school and sporting events. She was a loving and caring daughter and took care of her parents in their later years in her home.
She was a member of Pasadena Lodge No. 403, receiving her 45-year pin in 2002; the Odell American Legion Auxiliary 231, 50 years, UMW, Odell Seniors card group and the “Grandmas” card group. She enjoyed being with her family and friends she met playing cards in Odell, Barneston, Diller and Wymore.
Survivors: sons, Walter and wife Beverly of Beatrice, Melvin and wife Lylah, Arnold and wife Judy, Larry and wife Bernice, Gary, and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Vitosh, all of Odell; daughters, Lorraine Bates of Beatrice, Maxine Marshall and husband John of Castle Rock, Colo.; 21 grandchildren, Jeanne Lytle and husband Pat of Beatrice, Kathy Schnuelle and husband Doug of Jansen, Terrence Vitosh and wife Jeannette of Beatrice, Dan Bates and wife Raylene of Alexander, Ark., Robert Bates and wife Carrie of Omaha, Rex Marshall and wife Jodi of Houston, Texas, John Marshall and wife Jennifer of Centennial, Colo., Michele Lambert and husband Tony of Mt. Crested Butte, Colo., Brian Vitosh and wife Julie of Odell, Brad Vitosh and wife Amy of Wymore, Bruce Vitosh and wife Gwen, Rhonda Zarybnicky and husband Larry, all of Odell, Jennifer Warren and husband Chad of Wymore, Alyson Petersen and husband Scott of Fairbury, Stuart Vitosh and wife Laurie, Sidney Vitosh and wife Tracey, Christie Morgan and husband Shawn, all of Odell, Barbara Beekman and husband Brent of Beatrice, Shelley Eisele and husband Dietrich of Odell, Rebecca Holstedt and husband Joe of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sarah Vitosh of Lincoln; stepgrandchildren, Jim Bates and wife Linda of Eugene, Ore., Tom Bates and wife Sandi of Naperville, Ill., Mary Lou McGill and husband Larry of Dothan, Ala., Sue Ann Mickish of Lincoln; 44 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; 15 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Mary (Cacek) Bures; husband, Joseph A. (Feb. 15, 1980); son, LeRoy Dale Vitosh (May 9, 1998); son-in-law, Louis E. Bates (April 25, 1992); grandson, Robert Lee Vitosh (April 1, 1987); brothers, Joe, Albert, Charles; infant brother, Anton; and sister, Clara Novotny.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Centenary United Methodist Church, Sixth and Elk streets, Beatrice, with Pastor Faye Hubbard officiating. Burial at the Odell Czech Cemetery. Viewing started Monday at the Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home in Odell. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, Jan. 19, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with the Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home, Odell, in charge.
