The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #27
The unit met at 6 p.m. on Dec. 10 for the annual Christmas dinner/meeting/party. Thirty-nine members were in attendance. Loree Dienstbier and Kim Ostermann were hostesses with the Legion serving dinner.
A short meeting was held by President Dienstbier with Chaplain Linda Sturgill leading in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. She gave a program on the Christian meaning of Christmas.
Community service reports were given as follows: Verneal Dodge on Bingo at Homestead House, Roxanne Saathoff for Blue Valley Community Action. 45 items and $250 in cash were given and 93 items and $356 in cash were given to the Community Food Pantry.
Membership shows 166 members paid to date with one transfer member Beth Maashmann.
One memorial wreath was given and cards were sent to shut-in veterans and others. Two funeral luncheons were served. Members reported their volunteer hours.
Members had dinner and, after the meeting, Christmas-related activities were conducted by Dienstbier and Ostermann.
The club decorations will be taken down on Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. The next meeting is Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. Hostesses are Marian Melcher and Lori Balke. The program is “Planning Celebration of 100th American Legion Birthday." The Mid-Year Conference is Jan. 18-20 in Norfolk.
