The Beatrice Regional Orchestra finished its 2014-2015 season with a celebration of American composers Tuesday night at the BHS Hevelone Center.

The collection of songs in the "Born in the U.S.A." concert mixed elements of American jazz, choral and classical genres, from an arrangement of George Gershwin's famous "Rhapsody in Blue" to a suite of tunes by well-known jazz composer Duke Ellington, adapted for orchestra.

The music for one of the songs in the concert was composed by Beatrice Regional Orchestra Director Kevin Boesiger, and featured vocals by Kelly Meyer, Beatrice High School's vocal music teacher, and Jana Holzmeier, a professor of music at Nebraska Wesleyan University.

The orchestra also took a small break from its American composers theme to play a concerto featuring recent BHS graduate Chauncey Kleveland, who was recognized for an outstanding solo at the district high school music competition and is herself a member of the regional orchestra.
