Beatrice police arrested a woman Monday accused of fleeing police during an attempted traffic stop.
Kendra J. Barnts, 21, was arrested for driving during revocation, flight to avoid arrest, resisting arrest and false reporting.
The incident began around 11:30 p.m. Monday when a police officer spotted a black Dodge Dakota in the 700 block of West Mary Street and recognized the vehicle as being involved in a shoplifting case earlier that evening.
The vehicle fled when the officer attempted a traffic stop, reaching speeds of 47 mph.
Gage County Court documents state that the officer eventually terminated the pursuit.
A short time later the officer saw Barnts, who the officer knew to have two active Jefferson County warrants in addition to being a suspect in the shoplifting case, walking in the 300 block of Ella Street.
Court documents state Barnts was advised she was under arrest and resisted the officer, requiring the suspect to be taken to the ground. She allegedly gave the officer a fake name and her identity was later confirmed.
She was carrying a purse reported stolen from Walmart that contained new and unopened merchandise.
The vehicle was found in the 400 block of Washington Street and the keys found on Barnts belonged to the pickup.
Bond was set at $5,000 with a 10 percent deposit. Her next hearing is set for July 31.
