Alexis Wieskamp

WYMORE—The family of missing Alexis Wieskamp is asking for the community’s help in finding her.

Wieskamp, 14, is from Wymore and has been missing since Jan. 19. She was last seen wearing blue Aeropostale sweats, an Aeropostale shirt and black boots.

The teenager with long, dark brown hair is described as approximately 5 foot 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 110 pounds.

Wieskamp’s aunt, Kathy Haake, said Wieskamp ran away from her foster home on Jan. 19 and was last seen in the alley next to the library in Wymore. She said Wieskamp ran away a year and a half ago and was found after a week’s time.

Haake said because it’s not the first time Wieskamp has run away, she thinks police are hesitant to use their resources in investigating it, which she understands.

“She’s (run away) before, so I can understand (the police’s) frustration,” Haake said. “We can’t expect them to utilize all their resources, but it’s just frustrating when you have a loved one in a vulnerable situation like this. Even if she’s with people she knows, it’s still a vulnerable situation for a 14-year-old girl.”

Haake said some family members have taken it upon themselves to create flyers and circulate information through Facebook in hopes of bringing Wieskamp home safely.

The family has received a few tips on Wieskamp’s whereabouts, Haake said, one of which was from someone who claims to have seen Wieskamp on the day of her disappearance get into a tan car that looked like a Buick LeSabre. She got in the vehicle with a heavyset, dark-haired male and a long dark-haired woman who was driving.

Wymore Police Chief Bryan Davidson said the department has also received a few leads it is following up on.

Anybody with any information regarding Wieskamp’s whereabouts should call the Gage County Sheriff’s Office at 402-223-5221, the Beatrice Police Department at 402-223-4080 or the Wymore Police Department at 402-645-3315.

A flyer that is being circulated by the family indicates they are offering a reward for any information they receive that is helpful in finding Wieskamp.

Haake said they have about $300 at their disposal to give out as reward money.
