Gage County 4-H continues the proud tradition of county 4-H members winning a trip to National 4-H Congress, Nov. 29 through Dec. 3. We are proud to announce that two state winners were selected from Gage County - Hannah Parde and Chet McGrury, Beatrice. In addition, we have two alternates: Lauren Trauernicht, Wymore, and Korey Theye, Odell. Congratulations to these champions of 4-H! So proud of their project work, leadership and community service.
Welcome new 4-H clubs
Always a pleasure to announce the establishment of new 4-H clubs, the vehicle for learning and growing, building life skills. Two new clubs are organizing: Prairie Rangers 4-H Club and H & H 4-H Club. If you’re looking for a club and want information on these clubs and others in the county, call the Extension Office, 402-223-1384.
Where else but 4-H can youth learn about everything from sewing, home decorating, growing plants, learning about savings and spending, to raising broilers, cake decorating, baking, coding AND more. 4-H families received the flyer for the 2019 4-H Anytime Learning activities and workshops. It’s always a good time to grow and learn something new. Online registration due April 15.

From small beginnings grow great kids, adult volunteers, families and communities. 4-H grows happy, healthy, strong, skilled kids. 4-H grows character, respect, responsibility, confidence and leadership. 4-H is making Gage County a great place to live and work. Let the good times grow. Youth ages 8 (Jan. 1) and older are invited to join 4-H today. Public speaking contest
4-H Speech Contest is Thursday, April 11, 7 p.m., Extension meeting room. Youth may present both a speech and a radio PSA (public service announcement). Kids building life skills; register online by April 5.
Big Red Summer Academic Camps
Career exploration camps are offered at UNL each summer for high school sophomores and older. Careers include animation, teaching, engineering, filmmaking, outdoor Nebraska, veterinary science, weather and climate science, and unicameral youth legislature. Camps are hosted by Nebraska 4-H and UNL faculty with limited enrollment. Early bird reduced tuition with the April 15 application deadline.
Makin’ bacon and a whole lot more
Here’s more awesome summer learning for high school students, May 29-31 at UNL East Campus. Sponsored by the Nebraska Pork Producers Association, including all fees, participants will learn discuss consumer and farmer-related issues, learn hands-on in lab work, and develop communication, networking and advocacy skills. 4-H families, we have a deal for you! We received a stash of cotton print fabrics... perfect for projects in sewing, quilting, child care, home environment, etc. And the best news is this fabric is free for 4-H projects.
