The Gage County Fair showcases Gage County and southeast Nebraska. It’s a community event that is successful with the help of so many volunteers. If you would like to help at the fair with 4-H or the fair in general, contact the Extension office or the Fair Office. Thank you in advance. Making it fun gets the job done. 4-H grows kids, life skills, leadership, families, volunteers, strong communities.
4-H summertime ;earning and fun
Each year we offer many spring and summer 4-H workshops and activities; this year over forty workshops and projects were taught by Extension staff and volunteers. Kids are having so much fun and learning so much! The last pre-fair workshop is Rethink Your Drink by Tara Dunker, July 10. See all their exhibits at the Gage County Fair.
Invitational Dairy Show – July 6
Great pre‑fair show to get your animals ready for the county fair and perfect your showing skills! 4‑H youth are invited to the Invitational Dairy Show, Saturday, 9:00 am, fairgrounds, Beatrice. Animals in place by 8:30 am, with showmanship, class judging, and awards for breed champions and supreme champion. A youth may enter a maximum four animals. Entry deadline: July 2.
4-H fashion show
One of the most exciting pre-fair events is the annual Fashion Show, Monday, July 15, Hevelone Center, Beatrice High School. Modeling sewn garments, purchased garments, showing Quilts of Valor and other quilts give participants the skills of sewing, consumer buying, sewing and creating quilts. We are proud to present and honor a veteran with a Quilt of Valor that evening. 4-H members should note the pre-entry date of July 8. See fairbook (p. 72). Area pre-fair shows
Youth and families are invited to the Nemaha Valley 4-H Livestock Show, Saturday, July 13, downtown Adams. Check in 5:00 – 5:45 p.m. for goats, sheep and beef. Show starts at 6 p.m. Food stand on the grounds. Contact Deb Buehler, 402-866-4605. The Wymore Area Livestock Show is July 18, Arbor State Park in Wymore. Contact Darla Acton, 402-239-6236.
4-H horse exhibitors have completed district competitions in several locations across the state. Two Gage County youth won awards: Emerson Schultis, Jr. Reining Champion and Jr. Pole Bending Reserve Champion; Alexx Malchow, Sr. Pole Bending Champion.
Clover Kids – pre 4-H
Many kids tag along to 4-H activities; they can’t wait to join 4-H. Or maybe kids don’t know about 4-H but want to find out what it’s all about. We offer Clover Kids, a non-competitive experience for kids ages 5-7 with online enrollment. Adult volunteers work with children in simple, fun activities. The fairbook lists the fair classes (fairbook p. 73); entry day is Tuesday, July 23. Clover Kids modeling is at the 4-H Fashion Show, July 15, Beatrice High School.
