Is there a discernable “click, click, click” in your household? Do your rugs and carpets have noticeable snags and tears? Perhaps you need to check your pets’ paws. If it has been awhile since your dog has had a nail trim, today is your lucky day.
Pet pedicures will be available this afternoon from noon to 2 p.m. at the Beatrice Animal Shelter. Professional groomers from Beatrice will be donating their time and expertise to do this important service for our four-legged friends.
Cost is $10 for the first animal and five dollars for each additional pet and for pets of senior citizens. All proceeds will go to the care of animals at the shelter. No appointment is necessary, but we do ask that animals are brought in on leash.
And while you are at the shelter, check out the wonderful array of pet toys, accessories, collars, leashes, and even clothing that is for sale in our gift shop. You will be amazed at the selection and the reasonable prices. And best of all, you will be helping the critters who are “guests” at the Beatrice Animal Shelter.
Dog days of summer
This time of the year is sometimes referred to as the “dog days of summer”. It often suggests something unpleasant or undesirable about the last, lazy days of the season. However, for the Beatrice Humane Society, the next few weeks are action-central.
Right now, the special reduced adoption fees for cats and kittens are still in effect through the end of July. Two kittens can be adopted for the standard fee of one, and all adult cat adoptions are half off the usual fee.
The shelter is full of kittens and adult cats, and the selection of colors, sizes, and personalities is beyond belief. If you are in Lincoln, stop in at the north and/or south PetSmart stores to meet and greet cats and kittens from our Beatrice shelter. The special July adoption fees are available for our PetSmart cats as well.
There is surely at least one of our feline friends that you will fall in love with. Please consider opening up your home and your heart to a wonderful life-changing experience.

Doggie dip swim night
Coming soon to a swimming pool near you…it’s the annual “Doggie Dip Swim Night” at the Beatrice Water Park! Come join the fun on Tuesday, August 13th from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Our local pool will be closing early this season for maintenance and repairs, so the dogs will be swimming earlier in August than usual. Admission for your canine pals is 10 dollars per dog.
This is definitely one of the highlights of the year for all of us associated with the Humane Society. We love partnering with the City of Beatrice to make this event possible. If you are unable to bring a dog to the event, then just stop by the pool to see the amazing pups that love the splashing and interaction with the other dogs.
We have had huge Great Danes and itty-bitty Yorkies all swimming together – some even wear life jackets. And we are happy to report that, to date, we have not had any serious fights or bites between participants.
Microchip clinic – round two
If you have not had your dog or cat microchipped, it’s time to do so. In case you missed the recent free microchip clinic at the Beatrice Animal Shelter, you have a second chance to give your pet an important gift.
On Thursday, August 15th, shelter staff will be microchipping animals for free from 10 a.m. – 12 noon. Animals must be current on their rabies vaccinations and must be on leash. Additional animals will be charged a six- dollar donation fee for a microchip. No appointment is necessary.
Microchipping is critical in making sure that a pet can make it home if they get lost. Don’t risk the future of your beloved dog or cat. We all know “there’s no place like home.”
