ELKHORN -- Beatrice jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but couldn't hold onto it against Elkhorn Monday night.

The Orangemen fell to the Antlers 7-2 in Elkhorn.

Beatrice scored a run in the top of the first inning. Griffen Vater led off with a walk and Zach Hoffman's one out walk put runners at first and second.

An RBI single by Kole Jurgens pushed a run across the plate for the Orangemen, giving them the early lead.

Three singles by Elkhorn allowed them to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first. A single and a triple led to another run in the second inning to give the Antlers the lead.

Elkhorn would use two doubles to score another run in the third inning, making it 3-1. A single, an error and another RBI single led to a fourth run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Beatrice would score their second run in the top of the fifth inning. Griffen Vater walked and went to second when Peyton Murphy reached on a fielder's choice.

Vater then advanced to third on an error and scored on Hoffman's sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.

Two walks and a single loaded the bases for Elkhorn in the sixth inning for Elkhorn and they would push all three runs across the plate to open a 7-2 lead.

Beatrice's offense went down in order in the seventh inning, ending the game. Beatrice had just one hit in the game, a single by Brody Nelson.

Damian Salazar pitched the first four innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out two and walking one. Keenan Ruh pitched the last two innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on two hits while walking two.

Beatrice will play a make-up game at Seward on Friday before traveling to Omaha Skutt on Monday. The Orangemen won't be at home again until April 23 when they host Nebraska City.
