A two run home run by Brody Nelson in the first inning set the tone for a blowout win against Falls City Friday night.
The Beatrice Exmark Legion Seniors defeated Falls City 10-0 in five innings in the first round of the B1 Area Tournament hosted by Nebraska City.
Nelson's home run cleared the scoreboard in left field and gave Beatrice an early 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, Beatrice's Qwin Zabokrtsky and Peyton Murphy held Falls City's offense to just one hit.
Griffen Vater got everything started for Beatrice in the first inning when he led off with a single and the scored on Austin Burroughs' RBI double. That set up Nelson's home run to make it 3-0.
Exmark wasn't done scoring in the first inning. Hayden DeBoer got things going again with a double and Will Reimer was hit by a pitch. The two runners stole second and third and both scored on Zack Zimmerman's two-RBI single to make it 5-0.
Sean Pinkerton's RBI double scored one more run in the first inning, making it 6-0 after one inning.
Beatrice was unable to score in the second inning, but got its offense going again in the third inning.
Will Reimer led off with a single and Zabokrtsky's double put runners at second and third with nobody out. Zimmerman then grounded into a fielder's choice, which scored another run to make it 7-0.
A single by Pinkerton, a walk to Vater and a bases loaded walk to Burroughs forced in another run to make it 8-0 after three innings.
In the fourth inning, Deboer walked and Reimer doubled to lead off the inning. Both would later score on two separate wild pitches to make it 10-0.
Zabokrtsky pitched the first four innings for Beatrice, giving up no runs on one hit while striking out five and walking three. Peyton Murphy pitched a perfect fifth inning.
Beatrice had 10 hits in the game including a double and a single each by Pinkerton and Reimer. Nelson had a home run while Burroughs DeBoer and Zabokrtsky had a double each. Vater and Zimmerman had a single each.
Beatrice will now play at 5 p.m. on Saturday against the winner of Friday's late game between Hickman and Lincoln Christian. With a win there, they would play at 8 p.m. on Sunday. A loss would give them another 5 p.m. game on Sunday.
The tournament is scheduled to last through Tuesday with the winner advancing to the Class B State Tournament in Gering.
The Beatrice Neapco Juniors are set to open Class B State Tournament play on Saturday in McCook. Beatrice will play at 10 a.m. on Saturday against Alliance.
With a win, Beatrice would play at 4 p.m. on Sunday against the winner of Hickman and Roncalli. With a loss, Beatrice would play at 10 a.m. on Sunday against the loser of Hickman and Roncalli.
On the other side of the Class B bracket, Broken Bow plays Waverly and McCook plays Central City.
Tri County will be hosting the Class C State Tournament starting on Saturday. Tri County will play their first game on Saturday night at 8 p.m. against PWG. With a win, they would play at 8 p.m. again on Sunday against the winner of Shelton-Gibbon and Tekamah-Herman.
With a loss, Tri County would play at 2 p.m. on Sunday against the loser of Shelton-Gibbon and Tekamah-Herman.
On the other side of the Class C bracket, Syracuse plays Imperial at 11 a.m. and Pierce plays Louisville-WW at 2 p.m.
