The Beatrice Exmark Legion Seniors were able to hold off Fairbury for a 6-5 win Thursday night at Christensen Field in Beatrice.

It was a scheduled nine inning game and Beatrice had a 6-4 lead entering the ninth inning. Fairbury managed to scratch one run across in the ninth, but it wasn't enough.

Caleb Wallman picked up the win for Beatrice, pitching 6.2 innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on 10 hits while striking out seven and walking three.

Sean Pinkerton and Chase Woltemath also saw action on the mound for Beatrice.

Beatrice struck first with a run in the second inning. Zack Zimmerman singled with one out and courtesy runner Qwin Zabokrtsky went to second on a ground out.

Two passed balls allowed Zabokrtsky to score, making it 1-0.

Fairbury came back with two runs in the second inning. Two singles set the table for Adam Wasserman's two-RBI single, making it 2-1.

Beatrice managed to score three runs in the the bottom of the third. Wallman led off with a single and Zach Hoffman doubled to put runners at second and third.

Sean Pinkerton's sacrifice fly tied the game 2-2. Peyton Murphy then reached on an error and Zimmerman's double brought in the go-ahead run for Beatrice.

A passed ball allowed one more run to score, making the score 4-2 after three innings.

Fairbury battled back to tie the game in the top of the fifth inning. Wasserman had an RBI single during the rally and Marshall York brought in another run with a ground out.

Beatrice put together a two out rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to re-gain the lead. Keenan Ruh singled, Ben Meints walked and Caleb Wallman singled to bring in the run, making it 5-4.

Beatrice would get one more big run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Woltemath led off the inning with a single and RUh walked. Both runners moved up a base on a passed ball. Wallman's sacrifice fly made it 6-4.

Fairbury got two runners on base with one out in the ninth inning and a sacrifice fly made it 6-5. With a runner on second base, Fairbury's next hitter flied out, ending the game.

Both teams had 10 hits in the game. Hoffman led Beatrice with a double and two singles while Zimmerman had a double and a single and Wallman had two singles. Sean Pinkerton had a double while Woltemath and Ruh had a single each.

Tanner Novotny had three hits and a run scored for Fairbury while Wasserman had two hits and three RBI's. Brody Kroll also had two hits, a run scored and an RBI.

Five Fairbury pitchers combined to pitch the game Thursday night. Both teams had one defensive error.

The Beatrice Exmark Legion Seniors are now 7-15 on the season. They travel to the Springfield Tournament this weekend before hosting a nine inning game with Columbus on Tuesday.

The Seniors will then host districts July 20-24 at Christensen Field.
