AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Andres Gimenez hit a two-run triple in the eighth inning, leading the Binghamton Rumble Ponies to a 4-1 win over the Akron RubberDucks on Sunday.
The triple by Gimenez scored David Thompson and Barrett Barnes and was the game's last scoring play.
Binghamton took a 2-0 lead after Gavin Cecchini hit an RBI single in the second inning and Barnes scored on a flyout in the fourth. Akron answered in the fifth inning when Ernie Clement hit an RBI single, driving in Alexis Pantoja.
Starters Harol Gonzalez and Tanner Tully both pitched gems in a classic pitchers' duel. Gonzalez (5-4) went six innings, allowing one run and seven hits to get the win. He also struck out eight and walked one. Tully (6-8) went six innings, allowing two runs and four hits to take the tough loss in the Eastern League game. He also struck out three and walked one.
Binghamton improved to 10-4 against Akron this season.
