The Beatrice Neapco Juniors got off to a good start in the B4 Area Tournament in Crete on Friday.

Beatrice defeated Lincoln Christian 14-6 to advance in the winner's bracket. They'll play at 8 p.m. on Saturday against the winner of Friday's late game between second-seeded Fairbury and fifth-seeded Crete.

Lincoln Christian manufactured a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead over Neapco, but Beatrice roared back with five runs in the second inning.

Aidan Russell got the rally started with a lead off double. He scored on Connor Hamilton's one out RBI double to make it 1-1.

Josiah Wallman reached on a bunt single and Dylan Roeder reached on an error, which scored another run to give Beatrice a 2-1 lead.

A bunt single by Max Reis scored another run and Adam Deboer's two-RBI double extended the lead to 5-1.

Lincoln Christian got one run back in the third inning to make it 5-2.

In the bottom of the third, Russel led off with a single and stole second. He then scored on Zane Hoffman's RBI single to make it 6-2.

Two walks and three singles led to four runs for Lincoln Christian in the fifth inning, which tied the game 6-6, but that would be the last of their scoring.

Neapco regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Walks to Caleb Jobman and Russell and a single by Hoffman loaded the bases with nobody out. Sacrifice flies by Hamilton and Wallman scored one run each, making the score 8-6.

Beatrice put the game away in the sixth inning by scoring six runs. Adam Deboer led off by reaching on an error. An error and a sacrifice advanced him to third.

Jobman walked and Russell was hit by a pitch to lead the bases. Hoffman was then hit by a pitch, which forced in a run. Hamilton then doubled, which cleared the bases and made it 12-6.

After Wallman was hit by a pitch, Roeder singled, which brought in another run. Max Reis then walked and Deboer reached on an error, which allowed another runner to score, making it 14-6.

Neapco had eight hits in the game. Hamilton led the offense with two doubles, five RBI's and two runs scored. Russell had a double and a single and four runs scored.  Roeder had two singles, two RBI's and a run scored. Hoffman had two singles, two RBI's and a run scored. Deboer had a double, two RBI's and a run scored.

Neapco's offense benefited from five Lincoln Christian errors, four walks and three hit batsman.

Billy Humphrey pitched 1.1 innings, giving up four earned runs on two hits while striking out three and walking four. Max Reis pitched the last two thirds of an inning, giving up no runs on no hits.

Beatrice's defense didn't commit any errors in the game.

With a win Saturday night, Beatrice would play on Sunday at 1 p.m. against either York or Seward. Those two teams play Friday evening and the winner of that gets a bye on Saturday.

The champion of the B4 Area Tournament will advance to state, which is being hosted by McCook.
