CRETE -- The Beatrice Neapco Juniors are the only unbeaten team remaining in the B4 Area Tournament in Crete.
Beatrice will play in the championship game Tuesday night and will have to be beaten twice. If they win the championship, they will advance to the Class B State Tournament in McCook.
In the second round of the area tournament, Beatrice defeated Fairbury 8-6. Neapco led 6-0 after four innings, but Fairbury scored three runs in the fifth inning and three more runs in the sixth inning to tie the game 6-6.
Beatrice would rally for two runs in the seventh inning. Adam Erikson walked with one out and pinch runner Max Reis eventually scored when Parker Tegtmeier reached on an error.
Adam Deboer then reached on another Fairbury error, allowing another run to score, making it 8-6.
Fairbury got one runner on base in the bottom of the seventh, but that's it as Beatrice held on for the win.
Tegtmeier pitched 4.1 innings for Beatrice, giving up three earned runs on five hits while striking out two and walking four. Zane Hoffman pitched 2.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on two hits while striking out four and walking three.
Adam Deboer had two singles to lead the Beatrice offense. Connor Hamilton score two runs. Beatrice benefited from eight walks and eight Fairbury errors.
Beatrice reached the championship game by beating York 7-6 on Sunday.
Beatrice had a 7-3 lead going into the seventh inning. York scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but a double play ended the game.
Deboer led the offense with a double, two singles, two RBI's and a run scored. Devin Smith had a double, a single, an RBI and a run scored. Aidan Russell, Zane Hoffman, Josiah Wallman and Dylan Roeder had a single each.
Deboer pitched five innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits while striking out six and walking five. Devin Smith pitched 1.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits while striking out three and walking three. Max Reis, Billy Humphrey and Elijah Mangnall combined to finish the game on the mound.
Neapco will play at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday night against the winner of Thursday's game between York and Seward. Beatrice would have to be defeated twice.
Wymore still alive in C4 Area Tournament
WYMORE -- The Wymore Juniors are still alive in the C4 Area Tournament in Wymore.
Wymore is still playing despite losing their first game of the tournament to Syracuse. They beat Adams/Sterling in their first elimination game and then beat Hebron.
Wymore will play at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday against either Syracuse or Tecumseh. If Syracuse wins, Wymore would have to beat them twice as they are the only unbeaten team remaining in the tournament.
If Tecumseh wins, Wymore would have to play Tecumseh first on Tuesday. If they win that, they would play Syracuse in the championship.
