FAIRBURY -- Griffin Vater pitched a no hitter for the Exmark Legion Seniors Tuesday night against Fairbury.
Beatrice won the game 5-0, improving their record to 11-9 on the season.
Vater pitched all seven innings, giving up no runs on no hit while striking out 18 and walking one. He also led the way offensively with two doubles, a single, two RBI's and a run scored.
Three of Beatrice's five runs came in the first inning. Vater led off the game with a double and then eventually scored on Hayden DeBoer's one out RBI single.
Brody Nelson's two run home run extended the Beatrice lead to 3-0 after a half inning.
Exmark scored another run in the second inning. Qwin Zabokrtsky led off with a double. He eventually scored on Vater's RBI double to make it 4-0.
Beatrice tacked on one more insurance run in the seventh. Sean Pinkerton walked with one. Vater then singled and Pinkerton was able to score on an error on the play.
Exmark wouldn't need that insurance run, though, as Vater struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh. Vater struck out the last 13 batters he faced.
Beatrice had six hit in the game, three of which came from Vater. Nelson had a home run while Zabokrtsky had a double and DeBoer had a single.
Beatrice will be in action again on Wednesday when they host a doubleheader with the Millard Sox at Christenson Field. The first game is slated for 5:30 p.m.
The Beatrice Neapco Juniors also defeated Fairbury 9-4 on Tuesday.
